Glass fragments lead to antibiotic recall

he antibiotic Amoxicillin is being recalled owing to fears the medicine may contain glass fragments.
Pharmaceutical company Actavis has issued a "precautionary recall" of Amoxicillin Actavis Powder for Oral Suspension which comes in two strengths, 125 mg/5 mL and 250 mg/5mL.
The recall applies only to the liquid form of the drug, which is commonly given to children with glue ear, and chest, skin, and urinary tract infections.
The recall is being made to all pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers and consumers, and the company is advising all healthcare professionals, distributors, and consumers, to return product through the appropriate channels.
Two bottles have been found to contain glass fragments, which appeared to have broken off from the lip during manufacturing.
Actavis is working closely with Medsafe to investigate the matter.
